10 minute presentation for Hand-in-Hand conference:

Visions of the Internet in 1969?

What do you think?!

“Google Goggles”: Augmented Reality Glasses

Will you be queuing up for them?:

Can you remember life before 2006?

Life before “Social Media” took over:

Kids try to figure out old technology #video

A fascinating video (which makes sense even if you don’t speak French) – how fast technology changes:

Another video, for the American market:

Great video #JISCEL11 (via @jamesclay)

A really inspiring video which echoes much of what I end up saying (wonder if I could sneak this into my Soc Med for Scared courses… makes a chance from ‘Guess the date of the quote’ – which usually sounds like something people say about social media, but was about e.g. the printing press or the telephone!):

More social media activity than porn?

Check out this post from Pete Phillips (colleague and boss), indicating that there’s more social media activity than porn online now (I believe I may have said that several times, but I couldn’t remember where I first got it from either) and particularly this video:

Part of my job is to help people understand why we should be using social media, so this kind of video is helpful, although it’s a shame that the video focuses on business benefits only, and I hope that we can help to highlight some of the more non-business benefits… and not be so in awe of social media that we use it unthinkingly!

Flashmob @officiallove146

We all know about flashmobs, right (which probably makes it easier to organise one… as people will stop and look!), and this one happened earlier this week. It’s interesting, as most of us will have missed the actual event in Trafalgar Square, but social media allows it to ‘go viral’. 10 minutes is still long for a video (even one for such a good cause)… and of course the intention is that you’re not wandering around throwing out leaflets (well, not that we can see on the video anyway!), but that you do the event, which many people will record unofficially on their cameras/phones, upload and say “I was there”, and then put out the official video which most will see (18000 so far), and then hopefully people will tell their friends about it, and visit the website (which was clearly advertised on the t-shirts).

Flashmobs… extremely ephemeral… it appears, it’s gone… but it’s recorded forever!

Experimenting with Jing

Here’s the first quick test video I made… I obviously need to wait another second before I start talking, and plan what I am talking about too! And here’s a second version Jing Test 2 (MP4, rather than SWF format), after upgrading to Pro, which was £11! Means can now upload to YouTube and make longer videos, but the free version looks like it would be enough for a lot of people, where you can also upload to Screencast! I’m thinking about using it to allow students to follow how to set up a WordPress blog – it has to be better than a PowerPoint presentation right?! Thanks to @russell1955 for the tip-off about this software! Visit the Jing website and sign up for a free account.
