For the next 24 hours, I’m ensconced at High Leigh Christian Conference Centre, with 11 others who are interested in digital mission. The event is quite informal, but with time slots allocated to each of the delegates to provide content to promote conversation… so here’s my planned contribution:

Unusually for such an event, we won’t be live tweeting, etc. the event, so it’ll be interesting to see what notes I take .. it’s been a while since I’ve been in a Twitter free zone!

About to run a day long workshop at Salisbury Cathedral. This is the morning session:

A lunchtime event ‘Space in the City’, held at URC Winchester (12.30, for “27 minutes”):

Over the past 48 hours, something very interesting has happened! Around 4ish on Monday, I Facebooked @JamesPoulter about something… he’d just returned buzzing from #likeminds, and he rang me back to say that @dean_seddon_uk (who pastors a church/has the venue/runs this kind of event on a regular basis) had been on the phone talking about arranging an event in Manchester – a social media/Christian event in the regions, and they’d already been speaking to @ichthusvideo too! I think there’s so much that can be done on this, so chuffed to be asked to speak/help organise… I consider myself an hon. Manc, as I lived there for a couple of years – hated my job, loved the city/people… and I’ve spoken to Andrew Graystone a few times about doing something in Manchester. I was at my University of Winchester job, so just checked in occasionally, set up the FB page (different from the secret group where the organisation/floating of ideas continues), and started floating around ideas for speakers (I have so many connections – many of whom came to #CNMAC10 & #CNMAC11 – and a number who I got know (better) through those events, other events (I speak at quite a few now), and via, of course, social media). I was also at housegroup/cooking up my meals for the rest of this week, so was checking in sporadically. Things moved faster than I expected … over a couple of hours

• A Twitter account was created, and feelers started to be sent out on Twitter/Facebook
• Tasks were divided amongst the group
• An outline programme was created, and changed multiple times via the private Facebook group
• UCB (based in Stoke-on-Trent, so keen to get involved in a local event) provided a speaker and advertising
• James, who works with YouVersion, brought them on board
• Jay (another friend in our social circle), was also brought on board, with a particular interest in advocacy – bringing Tear Fund on board with the event
• Advertising was created … flyer/website
• Price decided, Eventbrite was created
• Conversations had started floating around online
• A ‘local’ (non-London) Southern event started planning… under @emptybelly

A talk for today:

The second session of ‘The Digital Revolution?‘ included a discussion about the nature of being involved in the digital space (such a cultural change, but one that has already happened… it’s what people are doing, and the intention of MediaLit11 is to allow people to engage with media issues in a Christian way (*whatever that means).)  We look forward to #digidisciple, where we have a number of people prepared to blog regularly on “Living Biblically in a Digital Age”.
